First Nations Board Director

Purpose and Description of Position

This is an identified position which remains open year-round, to be filled when the right person is ready to walk alongside us. As a board member of Yung Prodigy, you will provide strategic oversight and governance to ensure that the organisation fulfills its commitment to the liberation and alleviation of the impacts of parental incarceration on young people. Board members strategically guide the organisation to achieve its mission and vision through aligning to Yung Prodigy’s values of transparency, grassroots, intersectionality and community centred approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership: Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans that align with the organisation’s mission to mobilise young people affected by parental incarceration.
  2. Governance and Oversight: Ensure that the organisation adheres to legal standards and ethical norms, maintains financial accountability, and operates transparently.
  3. Advocacy and Representation: Act as an advocate for Yung Prodigy, representing the organisation at public events and within networks to enhance its profile and impact where necessary.
  4. Resource Mobilisation: Assist in obtaining sufficient funds and resource development efforts to secure the financial health and sustainability of the organisation. 
  5. Program Development: Provide input into program planning and evaluation to ensure that initiatives effectively address the needs of young people impacted by parental incarceration.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster relationships with key stakeholders, to advance the organisation’s objectives.
  7. Utilise skills: utilise skills to strategically build Yung Prodigy through the unique lens you bring.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission of Yung Prodigy and understanding of the challenges faced by young people with incarcerated parents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to attend board meetings and dedicate time to committee responsibilities and events where relevant.

Commitment

The position requires a minimum commitment of two years, with the possibility of renewal. The Board must meet at a minimum of 4 times per year, in line with Yung Prodigy’s governing document. Board members are expected to participate in additional committee meetings or functions as required/relevant.
